New Apartment

Living detached from everyone and everything I know, such as I have done for almost a year now, will change certain things about a person. It can make you go crazy, cherish new-found freedoms, or reconfigure your priorities. For me, it's caused me to take a lot of pictures. Pictures of everything. With my DSLR or just my blackberry. My husband makes fun of me. It started with the purpose of sharing on social networks, which were--and still are--the only thing filling the gap between me and miles and miles of people and places I don't know. Facebook was a lifesaver while I lived by myself during my husband's training, to be pathetically honest. It all makes me feel not so far away. But I digress.

Not exclusive on my list of picture-taking extravaganza is... our apartment! Obviously it is our new apartment, as we have only lived here for just over a month. I don't like it but I'm trying to make the best of it. Here are the results.

It's a 2 bed, 2 bath but I've only done the rooms closest to completion. So if they seem a little bare it's partly because that's my level of cleanliness and partly because they're not quite done!

The living room. I don't know what we ever did without a fireplace ♥

My humble... (humble...) kitchen. :)

My favorite room. Favorite part? It smells like IKEA.♥

I'm trying to get an Oriental theme going on in the bedroom. I've sort of admired aspects of Asian culture as of late, and I love when it's incorporated into interior design. I've got an Oriental blue material I'm going to make curtains with and after we move I'll paint one or two walls of the next bedroom red. ...At least that was the plan until I JUST realized that it would clash with my beautiful $5 red fleamarket fan (above). Oh well, gray and certain shades of blue are also great asian colors. (Thoughts?)

That's all I've got so far. I would say there's more to come, but... due to a lack of light fixtures in the apartment (8 rooms... one light fixture), I think I would have an easier time taking pictures in a dark, dank cave. On second thought, anyone living in a cave who needs some pictures can actually contact me, 'cause after today I'm feeling like a pro. (#736 I'm counting down the days till the end of our lease!)

Sooo let me know you've seen them... tell me what you think!! :)

  2. Not sure why you don't like it (besides lack of palms and a pool) It looks like a lovely apartment! I love the living room! Bonus points for the fireplace and that is an awesome couch!

oh and what about gold for a color instead of red? One or two walls in gold would brighten a room and add warmth while accentuating all the acessories.... an idea anyway :)

  3. ugh love your fireplace ! tomorrow we are getting a wood-burner and i cannot WAIT :D it's not as romantical as a fireplace.. but definitely helps with the cold (which i'm not sure how much of that you have to combat down there :P)
